Rooting machines can be used by pneumatic and hydraulic drilling rigs.
The cutter is used to define a preferential cutting line by making two furrows along the previously drilled hole. Later, when gunpowder is placed inside the borehole, the gases from the deflagration will be directed mainly into the grooves made by the rooter, fracturing the rock in the desired direction.
Unlike conical bars, which have a hexagonal socket and rotary drilling, rooting machines are only operated with percussion and therefore have a round socket.
